Use Dasig's messaging system to coordinate with volunteers, transport helpers, and supporters

What is the Messaging System?

Dasig's built-in messaging lets you coordinate directly with volunteers, transport helpers, and supporters. All conversations are 1:1 (one-on-one), private, and update in real-time without needing to refresh the page.

Accessing Your Inbox

From the Header

Click your avatar in the top right corner → Select "Messages"

Direct Link

Navigate to /profile/messages

Unread Badge

When you have new messages, a red badge appears on your avatar in the header

How Messages Start

Conversations are created when:

  • A volunteer clicks "Offer Transport" on your campaign
  • Someone reaches out about volunteering or donating
  • You initiate contact with a supporter (future feature)

Using the Inbox

Conversation List

See all your active conversations sorted by most recent message

Last Message Preview

Each conversation shows a preview of the last message sent or received

Unread Indicator

Unread conversations are highlighted with a badge and bold text

Participant Info

See the name and avatar of the person you're messaging

Sending Messages

  1. 1. Open a conversation

    Click on any conversation from your inbox list

  2. 2. Type your message

    Use the text box at the bottom of the screen

  3. 3. Send it

    Press Enter to send (or click the Send button)

  4. 4. New lines

    Press Shift+Enter for a new line without sending

Message Thread Features

  • Auto-scroll: Thread scrolls to newest message when you send or receive
  • Message history: Full conversation history is saved
  • Timestamps: See when each message was sent
  • Your messages: Appear on the right side with different styling
  • Their messages: Appear on the left with avatar
  • Character limit: Up to 5,000 characters per message

Common Use Cases

Transport Coordination

"Thanks for offering to help! We need transport on Saturday at 10 AM from [assembly location] to [impact location]. Can you handle about 50 boxes?"

Volunteer Questions

"Hi! I'd like to help with sorting donations. What days do you need volunteers? I'm available weekday mornings."

Donor Follow-up

"Thank you so much for your donation! We received the items and they're being distributed this week. I'll share photos in the campaign updates!"

Best Practices

  • Respond within 24 hours when possible
  • Be clear and specific about dates, times, and locations
  • Use friendly, professional tone
  • Thank people for their time and support
  • Share your phone number when coordinating day-of logistics
  • Follow up after events to build relationships

Privacy & Security

  • 🔒 Conversations are private - only you and the other person can see messages
  • 🔒 Messages are stored securely in the database
  • 🔒 No one else (not even Dasig admins) can read your messages without database access
  • 🔒 Share personal contact info (phone, address) at your discretion
  • 🔒 Report inappropriate messages to [email protected]

Tips & Tricks

Keyboard Shortcuts:

  • Enter - Send message
  • Shift+Enter - New line
  • Esc - Back to inbox (when supported)

Troubleshooting

Messages not appearing?

Try refreshing the page. Real-time updates work automatically, but a refresh can fix connection issues.

Can't send message?

Make sure you're signed in and the message isn't empty. Check your internet connection.

Conversation missing?

Conversations stay in your inbox until manually deleted (future feature). Check if you're looking at the right account.
