Donor Privacy & Anonymous Giving

Respecting donor privacy and handling anonymous donations

Why Donor Privacy Matters

Some donors prefer to give quietly without public recognition. Respecting donor privacy builds trust and creates a safe environment for all types of giving.

How Anonymous Donations Work

Donor Choice

When making a donation, donors can check a box to remain anonymous

Name Hidden

Anonymous donors' names are hidden from public view on the campaign page

Still Counted

Their contributions still count toward campaign goals and are tracked in inventory

What Information is Hidden?

Public View

Shows “Anonymous Donor”

  • ✓ Donation still counted
  • ✓ Quantity shown
  • ✓ Date shown
  • ✗ Name hidden

Organizer View

Shows full information

  • ✓ Donor name visible
  • ✓ Contact information
  • ✓ Can send thank you
  • ✓ Marked as anonymous

Your Responsibilities

  • Respect Privacy: Never publicly share anonymous donors' names
  • Secure Storage: Keep donor information confidential and secure
  • Proper Updates: When posting updates, don't mention anonymous donors by name
  • Private Thanks: You can still thank anonymous donors privately via message

Acknowledging Anonymous Donors

Ways to show gratitude while respecting anonymity:

In Campaign Updates

“Thank you to our anonymous donors who contributed 50 sacks of rice this week!”

Private Messages

Send a personal thank you message through the platform to the anonymous donor

General Gratitude

“Thank you to all our donors, both named and anonymous, for your generosity”

Non-Anonymous Donors

For donors who choose to be public, you have more flexibility:

  • ✓ Can mention them by name in updates
  • ✓ Can tag them in social media posts (with permission)
  • ✓ Can publicly recognize their contributions
  • ✓ Their name appears on the campaign page donor list

Handling Privacy Requests

If a donor contacts you with privacy concerns:

  1. 1. Take their request seriously
  2. 2. Update their donation status to anonymous if needed
  3. 3. Remove any public mentions of their name in past updates
  4. 4. Confirm the changes with the donor
  5. 5. Honor their preferences going forward
